Who's on Google?
First Impression:
I think it has something to do with online presence.
Quote:
"private information private"
Reflection Proper:
I have searched myself in Google as what the article suggested and I am happy that it took me 3 pages before my anything related to me came to sight. Being searchable is somewhat okay but it depends on the person. Someone who wants to sell themselves need it. People pay huge amount for advertisement and to be linked in the first page means one must be famous. But people like me would rather prefer to be away from the limelight as it could cause complications in the future. It does not mean I am hiding from someone or something but I just want my private life to be private as as Haselhorst said, keep "private information private".
There is a law in United States that prevent employers into checking ones age because it causes discrimination upon hiring. This confuses me because in my resume, I played my birthday there as what I am taught. Maybe the law in the United States differ here in the Philippines. It is interesting as in the United States, people discriminate age higher than 40 years old as the Age Discrimination in Employment Act actually helps the people aged higher than 40. Here in the Philippines, it seems like people like to hire older people because they have more experience and according to some, they tend to stay longer in a company as compared to millennials who like to keep on transferring companies. For me age is just a number, but private information must still be kept private.
5 Things That I've learned:
There is this act: "The Age Discrimination in Employment Act protects those aged 40 and older from discrimination in job advertisements and during the hiring decisions".
Obama pushed "Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights”.
Haselhorts is the director of content for Scholarships.com.
Federal Trade Commission is FTC.
There is this act: "The Age Discrimination in Employment Act protects those aged 40"
5 Integrative Questions:
What makes one better? Age?
What is Google?
How can one survive without being online?
How can the HR in US think 40 and older men and women are less than 20s?
How can the government protect the above 40s here in the Philippines?
