Online You?
First Impression:
This article is about the effects of the internet with kids
Quote:
“Parents hold the keys to the Internet for their children.”
Reflection:
There are scandals on the internet and some of them are because of children. How the television affect us when we were children, is how the internet is affecting the children of today. We would always rely on television to entertain us before, but now we would always ask for the wifi password.
This article talks about the effect of social media to kids. It has surveys on the increase and decrease of online activity from teenagers and children. As a young myself, I am one of those people that just lurk around and isn’t really active with sharing my day to day activities. I find the internet and social media entertaining, but I know my limitations. I see most of the young adults in the Philippines posting and are active on their social media accounts. Most of them like to vent out their feelings and start issues. These issues then turn into bullying and then depression.
It’s sad how badly the internet can affect the youth. The social media is the main source online bullying. It is sad because most suicides are because of bullying. The quote parents hold the keys to the internet for their children is really powerful because they are the ones that have the control on how their children will treat the internet and how they will act with their social media accounts.
5 things I’ve learned:
Be careful with what you put on your social media accounts.
Not everyone is a friend online.
Bullying is rampant online.
The parents have the most influence with their children’s approach to social media
Teenagers should be responsible for their actions online
5 integrative questions:
What can we do to stop online bullying?
What cause online bullying?
How can we educate the youth with the dangers of the internet
How can we be a better example for them?
How can we make the internet a safer place
